Choosing a driving instructor

The thought of a first driving lesson can be exciting for most, and a little scary. Knowing you are in a dual controlled car with a trained professional can be a big help. However, choosing a driving instructor can be tricky. If you have a friend or family member who got on well with their instructor, it can definitely worth looking into.

In many cases it is hard to know what you should be looking for when choosing a driving instructor. Value for money is one thing I am sure would be high on anyone’s list. So what does that mean?

What to look for in an instructor

A quality course of driving lessons needs to put you in the driver’s seat, both figuratively and literally. Firstly, you need to get on with your instructor. This is important to create a comfortable learning environment. Secondly, you need to know that your needs are being met and your concerns are being listened to. All driving instructors have good technical knowledge, but no one knows you like you know you. Thirdly, and arguably most importantly, your instructor needs to know this and include this principle in your training.

Your instructor will be patient, friendly and knowledgeable, taking a keen interest in what you have to say and planning lessons around your needs.
